In this exciting role, you'll be responsible for handling many different P&I claims, including those that are more difficult and complex, from notification to completion.


Your main duties will include:


  • Checking the legitimacy of claims against the P&I Rules and the member's terms of entry.
  • Maintaining files, reports, Claims Summary Documents and Estimate Review (ESR) with accurate, detailed and timely information/documents.
  • Acknowledging receipt and properly handling claims and enquiries, consulting with members throughout.
  • To handle claims appropriately and costeffectively.
  • Working closely with the Loss Prevention Department on claims, member reviews and as the condition of entered vessels and the performance of crew requires.
  • Involving FD&D Department in a timely manner in relevant cases.
  • Informing the Underwriting Department of any unusual risks detected.
  • Taking responsibility for and engaging in additional projects and activities of the P&I department, including Sector and Expertise Groups, training, team development and member relationships.

Ideally, you'll have:

Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience

  • Degree (preferably in Law) or equivalent (e.g. Master Mariners Certificate)
  • IT literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office and adaptability.
  • Good interpersonal skills always appropriate to cultural diversity and with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
  • Flexible with availability to be able to service needs of clients and geographical sector colleagues.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Experience

  • Previous shipping law or industry experience (25 years).
