If so we would love to welcome you to join our friendly Endoscopy team Without our highly valued decontamination team, the unit would not function effectively.


Our specialty makes us exciting, ambitious and forward-thinking and we are looking for a committed, enthusiastic, motivated and resilient individual to join our nursing team.


This exciting opportunity will allow you to work as part of our dedicated, hardworking and friendly team in one of our two JAG accredited Endoscopy units within the Trust.

Although you will initially be based at the Chorley Hospital, you will be expected to provide cross site cover at Royal Preston Hospital Endoscopy unit when needed.


Previous Endoscopy decontamination experience would be desirable; however, this is not essential as support and extensive training will be given to an excellent standard, including a 7 week supernumerary period with a dedicated mentor.

We carry out a wide range of both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures to both outpatients and inpatients.


At Chorley Hospital, procedures include:


  • Gastrointestinal procedures including colonoscopy & gastroscopy.
  • We work with the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) as part of the team in the northwest.
  • Respiratory endoscopy including bronchoscopies.

At Royal Preston Hospital, procedures include:

  • Gastro-intestinal procedures including colonoscopy, gastroscopy and GI bleed patients.
  • We work with the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) as part of the team in the northwest.
  • Respiratory endoscopy including bronchoscopies.


Your role will be to provide safe & effective decontamination of the endoscopes, along with assisting the qualified nurses in the procedure room with patient care ensuring patients have a positive Endoscopy experience whilst on the unit.

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Be responsible for providing a range of individualised care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of the team leader/nurse in charge including assisting with biopsies.
  • Perform the safe decontamination of the endoscopes, both manually and using the dedicated Wassenburg washers.
  • Able to store the decontaminated endoscopes safely in the Labcaire drying cabinet, and perform the necessary testing needed, to ensure safe storage.
  • Maintain effective track and trace records of the processed endoscopes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of using the Wassenburg washers, changing the chemicals required for the washers and maintaining records.
