    An exciting opportunity has arisen to work with and lead a dynamic and high-profile team in a 6-month secondment as a Deputy Divisional Director of Nursing within the Medicine and Long-term conditions division here at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.


    The post requires someone with the ability to think and act strategically, set direction in a complex environment, and manage relationships with a wide range of senior colleagues within the multi-disciplinary team.

    You will be required to be able to demonstrate a high level of analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, and a strong understanding of clinical specialty management and patient safety, quality care assurances across several specialties at once.

    You will be educated to a master's level or equivalent and have demonstrable and credible experience of senior management roles in the health sector.


    Demonstrating a resilient and flexible can-do attitude and a strong focus on high delivery of quality, safe patient care is essential.


    The existing Interim Divisional Director of Nursing is looking for a strong compassionate leader who has core nursing values at the heart of how they practice, in order to provide outstanding quality of care.

    The Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The 170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which will commence in 2021

    Our multidisciplinary services include rapid response and homebased care, so that those with long term conditions and the frail elderly can remain in their own homes.

    The Deputy Head of Nursing will support the Divisional Director of Nursing (DDoN) to help leadand manage the nurses and ACPs across all settings within the division.

    The Deputy Head ofNursing will work under the supervision of the Divisional Director of Nursing and in partnershipwith the Care Group Managers and Clinical Directors and Leads to provide strong and effectiveleadership to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of services to clinical users andpatients.

    The post holder will have direct line management of the Clinical Matrons and CNSs forDermatology and Endoscopy under their structure.

    They will provide leadership to theseindividuals ensuring processes are in place to set objectives, monitor performance and agree,review and deliver personal development needs.

    Registered Nurse with Current NMC Registration.
    Master's degree in Nursing or evidence of study at this level
    Management Qualification or equivalent management experience
    Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development

    Able to maximise leadership skills in Clinical Managers, Matrons, Midwives, Nurse Consultants and the wider team so all nursing and multidisciplinary staff are managed effectively through effective standard-setting, monitoring, feedback, appraisal, mentoring, clinical supervision and reflective practice
    Ability to monitor and act to improve and deliver performance and establish high levels of quality and to hold others to account for delivery
    Understand the vision for the future of nursing and be able to demonstrate the opportunities this will provide
    High level of work organisation, self-motivation, drive for performance and improvement and flexibility in approach

    TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
    Minimum of five years' experience working operationally as a senior clinical nurse
    A broad and well developed understanding of nursing and midwifery policy
    Experience of successfully managing many services including people and budgetary management
    Demonstrable experience of successful change management
    Understanding diversity and equality issues and how they impact on services
    Understanding of NMC Code and requirements of it for the practice & behaviour and its application to the management of staff and self
    Effective understanding of the multidisciplinary team and how the roles and team can function to maximise quality, efficiency and motivation
