Description

The Resuscitation Officer provides a lead key role in the management and leadership of physical health across the partnership, supporting the delivery of the Resuscitation Service.

They will lead the planning and development of training across the partnership based on current guidelines and best practice, This includes working with an external training provider to ensure appropriate resus training is available and provide additional internal simulation program, working as the clinical expert in the field of resuscitation.


Working closely with the Associate Directors of Physical Health, the wider physical health teams, and divisional teams to provide a high level of resuscitation and acute care skills advice and training to all clinically relevant staff at the Trust in accordance with Resuscitation Council UK guidelines.


Act as an expert resource for the partnership in developing strategy, policy and standards of practice in resuscitation and advise on the management of resuscitation, equipment purchase and maintenance, ensuring compliance with risk management strategies.

This will necessitate making judgements involving complex facts or situations that require analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.


Use highly developed specialist knowledge across all aspects of resuscitation procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience in the management of patients.


Work with Learning and Development team to develop and deliver an efficient, effective, and expert standard of education and training, enhancing the resuscitation skills of all staff, including medical, nursing, allied health professions and non-clinical staff according to National and local guidance in accordance with the Resuscitation Council (UK), This will include training on NEWS2, recognizing the deteriorating patient.


Support the implementation and monitoring of the resuscitation service ensuring adequate provision of Basic and Immediate Life Support, adult and paediatric training that supports the Resuscitation Council (UK) minimum standards as well as National Early Warning systems for the identification and care of the deteriorating patient.

  • Provide staff with support and debrief following a cardiac arrest as appropriate.
  • Undertake follow up visits to areas following emergency calls to ascertain outcomes and lessons to be learnt:
  • this will involve ensuring that there is a related incident report completed for the event adding to the information detail as required
- reviewing the preceding 24-48 hours care and interventions
- interviewing or debriefing staff and assessing patients who have survived the event to enable a full evaluation of outcome

  • Act as an expert resource for ward staff for adhoc teaching, attending ward meetings or support with equipment issues
  • Ensure adverse incidents, near misses that occur during the course of an emergency call are reported and acted upon
  • Provides visible clinical leadership and supports the nursing/clinical teams in delivering high quality standards of care in relation to resuscitation, Sepsis, NEWS2 and recognising the deteriorating patient.
