We're currently recruiting for people just like you to come and join our Finance team as a Payroll Specialist.


Arguably one of the most important roles in the businessthe role of payroll specialist will sit within our Finance team and will be instrumental to the success and continued growth of the business.

You will be responsible for ensuring that all Benefexers are paid correctly and will deal with the end-to-end payroll process, so experience is a must.

This is initially a six month role, but it could be longer.

What will I be responsible for?

  • Process the monthly payroll through the outsourced provider ensuring that all changes are processed in accordance with instructions from HR.
  • Administering all starter and leaver information with regards to payroll and benefits
  • Calculation of payroll adjustments not limited to bonus/commission payments, flex allowances, overtime, car leases etc
  • Reviewing of payroll reports for accuracy and liaising with internal stakeholders and external payroll providers to ensure that monthly payroll reports are authorised for submission and payment in line with timetable Developing and refining payroll procedures.
  • Administration of defined contribution pension scheme
  • Responding to adhoc employee payroll queries and advising where necessary on taxes and employment guidelines.
  • Preparation of month end accounts and journal submissions for financial reporting
  • Analysing and reporting on payroll data against budget and rolling forecast
  • Support the year end process including engagement with external auditors.
  • Support HR and finance with all routine and ad hoc payroll related projects as required.

What are we looking for in the ideal person?

  • Experienced within the role/industry.
  • Adept using Microsoft Excel and able to demonstrate transactional experience in accounting systems (eg. ERP, Sage, Oracle)
  • Strong team work and ability to work both independently and collectively.
  • CIPP or similar qualification is desired, with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of good practice, current thinking, and end to end payroll processing.
  • Adept numerically when it comes to logging and recording data.
  • A proficiency in/experience of using payroll systems and working within strict payroll processes.
  • Have previously been responsible for the processing of a complex outsourced payroll with numerous employee benefits
  • Strong analytic and organisational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communicative skills.
  • Strong knowledge of pension and payroll legislation
  • Payroll project management experience desirable but not essential
  • Can work to strict deadlines

While this role will be worked predominantly on a remote or hybrid basis, we are looking for someone who is able to attend the Southampton office on a monthly basis.
