    Instrumentation and Functional Safety AuthorityLocation:

    Falkirk, Scotland Full time Staff Position Job PurposeThe Engineering Assurance (EA) Function provides FPS with a centralised organisation tasked with ensuring consistent execution of engineering activity across our entire business.

    A key element of this function is a suite of discipline Technical Authorities (TAs) and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

    The function is headed by the Engineering Assurance Manager with the TAs accountable for day to day delivery of their discipline health and direction.

    Reporting to the Engineering Assurance Manager, the job holder will act as the Discipline Technical Authority for Instrumentation and Functional Safety.

    In this capacity, the job holder will be accountable for establishing and maintaining a suite of I&FS standards, practices and procedures aimed at delivering consistent engineering activity across our operations and projects.

    An additional accountability of this role is the development and ownership of the FPS Functional Safety Management System (FSMS).

    The FSMS provides clear instruction and guidance for the management of Safety Instrumented Systems in compliance with the requirements of BS EN 61511.Principle AccountabilitiesAct as single point of accountability (SPA) for our standards and processes relevant to the design, operation and maintenance of instrumentation and protective systemsDevelop and own our Functional Safety Management System (FSMS) in compliance with the requirements of EN 61511.Provide I&PS engineering resource and assurance to projects and set piece activity, including formal review of external (3rd party) engineering documentationBe the arbitrator on all technical issues related to the I&FS disciplineCustodian and ownership of common I&FS discipline processes such as FSA and SIS overridesCarry out and approve SIF reliability calculationsLead I&PS discipline capability through a focus on best practice, lessons learned and building a strong community of among discipline engineersReview and approve deviations to discipline standards and practicesProvide technical responses to discipline related Technical Queries (TQs)Define I&PS Engineering competency requirements and provide assurance of business wide I&PS competency and discipline healthTechnical review and approval relevant discipline MOCsProvide I&PS expertise to incident investigationsDefine long term opportunities for I&FS improvementsInput into I&PS related risk packs, including definition of risk reduction actionsOwnership of relevant I&FS engineering contracts and participation in contractor auditsProvide a company wide view on I&FS maintenance and spares strategyOwnership of compliance plans for relevant Group Guidance Notes (IGGNs), including IGGN 20 for Safety Instrument Systems and Safety Integrity Level (SIS/SIL)Lead or contribute to safety reviews, risk assessments and investigations as the instrumentation engineering focal point.

    Support the asset maintenance teams with the implementation of planned maintenance routines.

    Support the asset maintenance teams in regards to equipment breakdowns, including investigation of equipment faults and defect resolutionMonitor and advise on the technical and safety implications of any maintenance backlogsDevelopment of discipline training material for our population of engineers and techniciansDevelopment and ongoing management of Instrumentation maintenance strategies and testing proceduresTechnical review of deferral requests for instrumentation maintenance and repair activitiesParticipation in the FPS incident management team as required.

    Adherence to 20 Principles for Behavioural and Process SafetyQualifications and technical experienceDegree in Instrumentation Engineering or equivalentChartered Engineer statusExperience of Oil & Gas, Refining or Chemical Industries.
