    An exciting opportunity has arisen on Ward 5, (Neurosciences Ward) for a Clinical Nurse Educator.

    This is a permanent post and the successful candidate will assist in the provision of specialist education to families and the neuroscience team members, to include students, qualified nurses and the wider MDT, ensuring the continued high standards of care, and the development of the service are maintained.

    Experience in neurosurgical and neurology nursing is desirable, along with teaching experience / qualifications.

    The Trust works in partnership with our education and medical teams to offer excellent development opportunities, management and clinical programmes affiliated to the university and neighbouring Trusts.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will assist the provision of specialist education to families and neuroscience team members, to include students, qualified nurses and the wider MDT, ensuring the continued high standards of care, and the development of the service.

    The post holder will deliver education, training and practice development.

    The post holder is expected to act as a role model to provide clinical leadership to the nursing team, liaising with medical and nursing staff, sharing expert knowledge and support to nursing colleagues in the clinical setting, and ensure quality care provision to the children, using unit protocols and Trust policies and guidelines.

    The post holder is responsible to plan delegated aspects of staff education, development and training needs and support the implementation of evidence-based, patient focused practice. He/she will provide training programmes for staff and maintain links with institutes of further learning.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    The Clinical nurse educator will provide professional nursing/operational advice on issues or factors affecting care delivery, ensure the environment is conducive to learning, inquiry, and research and to identify the training and development needs of medical/nursing staff and students within the team. They must Work with the Ward/Department Manager and the medical/surgical staff to develop training programmes to improve & enhance nursing skills and practice within the service.

    Person specification Qualifications/Training

    • RN Child (RSCN) First level Degree/diploma Teaching and Assessing qualification
    • Post Registration education in relevant subjects, such as paediatric neurosciences training.

    Experience

    • A minimum of 3 years senior experience of working within a neurosciences ward environment A minimum of 3 yrs experience with teaching and management skills that are transferable into this speciality. Experience of nursing patients with neurosciences needs Teaching and mentorship Research and Audit
    • Clinical Nurse Educator experience Band 6 Experience Performing PDR Recruitment and personnel

    Knowledge

    • Speciality Issues Health & Safety Safe Practices e.g. Moving and Handling, Sharps, COSHH Current Nursing/Health Issues Infection Control Child protection/Safeguarding Quality assurance issues
    • Clinical Nurse Educator experience Band 6 Experience Performing PDR Recruitment and personnel

    Skills and Abilities
