We work on a range of military and high-profile commercial aerospace programmes providing electrohydraulic components for flight control and engine control applications.

We have moved into a State-of-the-Art facility where we have direct access to the latest engineering design technologies such as: stress and CFD analysis software with associated high-performance computing, prototype manufacture (3D printing and traditional manufacturing capability) and bespoke in house development and environmental performance testing. The position supports the opportunity for training and development within these areas.

In this role, you'll be working on high pressure hydraulic components and with lightly damped mechanical systems where an appreciation of hydraulic performance and associated load conditions would be desirable. You will be supporting the growth of the analysis function within the Product Development team, this covers a broad range of engineering skill sets (Stress, CFD, Magnetic Modelling, Fluid Mechanics & System Modelling).

The nature of this role is extremely varied but with a bias towards stress analysis. This position will likely suit an individual who is keen to develop a range of problem-solving skills in the analytical fields of engineering and is prepared to turn their hand to new challenges.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Performs static and fatigue stress calculations, make design recommendations, assess part non-conformances, support failure investigations, and produce analysis reports.
    • Coordinate development test work in validating analytical models (typical tests: static, fatigue, vibration, thermal, CFD etc).
    • Ensures successful completion of the assigned project phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints.

    Desirable Skills and Experience

    • Ability to perform Stress Analysis with classical calculation methods as well as Finite Element Analysis.
    • Familiarity in Mathcad Prime

    • Familiar with linear and non-linear analysis techniques
    • Advanced MS Office user (focused on MS Word, MS Excel).
    • Static, Fatigue, Vibration, Thermal analyses of metallic structures.
    • Understanding and developing Methods and Tools of Analysis.
    • Test correlation activities.
    • Analysis and report checking, signatory rights in previous positions would be desirable.
    • Understanding of Project Management and MS Project.
    • You are likely to have knowledge and understanding of aerospace materials and a good understanding of the influence of manufacturing processes on the strength of components
    • Report writing, presenting, and communicating technical work to engineers and non-technical individuals.

A degree in Engineering is highly desirable, though not essential

A willingness to develop in the following areas:

    • Fracture Mechanics & Damage Tolerance Analysis
    • CFD:

o hydraulic flows in pipes & valves

    o Cavitating flows

o Heat transfer (fluid to solid interface)

o High Reynolds number hydraulic and gaseous flows

    • Understanding and appreciation of programming techniques and scripting (e.g., Python)
    • Leadership qualities to influence and support junior engineers in areas of expertise.
