  • Water is essential for life. Our health, environment and economy depends on this precious resource.

Increasing pressure on our water environment from climate change and population growth means that managing the quality and quantity of water in our lakes and rivers has never been more important.

We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with good communication, and information management skills to support our role of water planning for Lincolnshire and Northants.

With significant water pressures with the climate emergency forecast to increase pressure on water supplies in the future, we are looking for someone with an interest in Water resources and Drought to join our team.

Supported by our Specialists, you will help to protect and improve the quantity and/or quality of water available for wildlife, people and future generations.

You will do this by supporting workloads such as:


  • Assessing new abstraction proposals in collaboration with external partners and internal teams.
  • You will work in the drought team, contributing to drought planning and response.
  • With support from Specialist you will write procedures and training for drought response.
  • You will ensure the team completes required Audits
  • Respond to enquiries and requests for data and information
  • Support the technical requirements of the Water Framework Directive
  • Provide technical administrative support to other team members
  • Record data and information
  • Feed into Catchment planning requirements.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

  • Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) is predominantly a water planning team with specialists in water resources, water quality and river basin planning.

Working with area operational teams, national policy makers and other stakeholders such as water companies, we produce the environmental plans that drive Lincolnshire and Northants area priorities.

Our friendly and diverse team of Specialists and officers are at the heart of environmental decision making, facilitating integrated actions to solve complex problems.


  • Experience/skills required 1
  • Good organisational skills/discipline and the ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work.
Experience of translating guidance and instructions into local delivery.
Able to work under own initiative and as part of a larger, cross-functional/multidisciplinary team.
Able to work on own initiative in a large team and consider wider teams needs
Able to support working groups and organise/facilitate effective meetings.
Good research/analysis skills, supporting an ability to make proportionate, evidence-based inferences/proposals from information.
Experience of gathering, maintaining and quality-assuring data/information.
Sensitive to the needs of the internal and external customers and able to deliver outcomes through these.
Ability to convey information to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
