    Job summary

    NUH is looking to appoint a Trust Grade doctor at ST4 or above level to support our General Medical/Diabetes ward at QMC. The post is for 12 months from August 2024.

    You will be based on ward C52 at the QMC campus working closely with consultants, other junior doctors, nursing and therapy staff.

    The post holder will also contribute to the ST4+ General Internal Medicine rota at NUH which is cross-campus therefore MRCP and previous UK NHS experience are essential.

    Main duties of the job

    You will also contribute to the specialty ward referral rota alongside our existing registrars. This will involve seeing diabetes and endocrinology referrals from around the hospital and seeing emergency drop-in patients. The ward referrals are discussed with a consultant of the day.

    NUH has various specialty and sub-specialty clinics in diabetes endocrinology. You will get the opportunity to attend and see patients in these clinics to broaden your experience of the specialty. It will be a valuable experience for any future applications to diabetes and endocrinology SpR training programmes.

    About us

    Although this is not a training post, it should be possible for an enthusiastic doctor to map their experiences to many of the core curriculum programme competences as all aspects of the syllabus are relevant to this role.

    There are ample opportunities for work based assessments from the supervising consultants. You will also be allocated a Clinical Supervisor.

    In addition, there is a weekly diabetes and endocrinology departmental meeting and Junior Doctor teaching which you would be expected to attend and contribute to. Although this is not a training post it should be possible for an enthusiastic doctor to map their experiences to many of the core curriculum programme competences as all aspects of the syllabus are relevant to this attachment.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with a Licence To Practise in UK
  • Full MRCP
  • Experience

  • Good and wide ranging recent experience of clinical medicine in acute inpatient setting in a large acute hospital
  • Experience of working out of hours with limited support
  • UK experience of 12 months or more at Registrar level
  • Diabetes experience at foundation or CT level
  • Planning and Organisation Skills
