    Description

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, proactive Nurse Specialist to make a significantdifference to the health outcomes of adults with epilepsy in the West Midlands.

    This is a full time,band 7 (consideration would be given for a band 6 developmental post) based within theDepartment of Neurology at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT).

    The post-holder will bebased within Shropshire, providing services to people living in the county and its surrounding area.
    The Department of Neurology views its staff as its most important asset. As such, you will besupported with induction, training and advanced educational opportunities.

    We will use the EpilepsySpecialist Nurses Association (ESNA) competencies to help you to develop a clear career pathwaytowards expert practice.

    You will be expected to exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and to make critical judgementsusing specialist knowledge you will provide the highest standard of holistic patient care for patients with epilepsy.


    You will be responsible for the organisation and management of your own workloadand commitments to facilitate clinics in various locations throughout Shropshire and the surroundingarea, adapting and prioritising as necessary.

    Current clinic sites are in Shrewsbury and Telford, withplans to offer clinics in other towns as the service develops.


    Applicants should be highly motivated, dynamic and will play a pivotal role in epilepsy and neurology nursing service development, in line with national guidance.

    The post will require you to run and maintain nurse-led clinics independently. You will have responsibility for assessing patients and subsequently devising, implementing and assessing anindividual's comprehensive epilepsy care plan.

    The Department of Neurology is rapidly expanding its research portfolio, and you will participate in high quality, nurse led research and audit, applicable to the specialty, and to the benefit of patients.

    As an educator, you will help to develop the knowledge base of people with epilepsy and health professionals who care for people with epilepsy.

    You will be required to work autonomously in clinic settings across the region.

    Be required to take telephone help line messages and triage patient queries offering support and advice respective to seizure management or on-going care.


    To deliver autonomous advanced level practice encompasses aspects of education, research and management but is firmly grounded in direct compassionate care provision or clinical work with patients, families, caseloads and populations.

    Practitioners working at an advanced level will promote public health and well-being using making every contact count as an approach to change behaviour through interactions with individuals, carers and families to support them in making positive changes to their physical and mental health and wellbeing.
