    Description

    To provide senior dental nurse support to the dental nursing team and to work flexibly within a dental team providing high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the integrated Dental Service Community and Mobile Clinics and /or additional external sites as required.


    To provide day to day management of the clinic / department, and to support the Dental Nurse Manager and chair side assistance to Clinicians within the Division.

    To carry out clerical and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic/department

    To support the delivery of dentistry and development of the service.


    To educate and develop dental nursing teams to respond to the complex needs of patients that meet the acceptance criteria across the service.

    Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within Specialised Dental Clinics throughout the service and manage patients with complex social and medical histories.

    This includes Prison Services, Secure Units and Mental Health Facilities.


    Liaise with the Dental Nurse Manager and other Senior Dental Nurses to ensure correct training needs are met for staff within the service.


    Be professionally responsible for ensuring high standards of Infection Control and Decontamination processes within the service and monitoring undergraduate performance, including risk management and reporting to academic staff.

    Monitor and facilitate attendance for mandatory training requirements for the nursing team.

    Support the Dental Nurse Manager and Head of Service for Dentistry to provide team training for all disciplines

    Develop staff knowledge and skills to promote equality and diversity and address inequalities both in employment and service delivery. Maintain records for Dental Nurses (i.e. annual leave, off duty, sickness, study leave) and Dental Nurse Apprentices attendance records and ensure this information is communicated to the Dental Nurse Manager.

    A Dental Nurse qualification that enables registration with the General Dental Council
    Registered with the General Dental Council
    Conscious Sedation for dental nursing or Special Care Dental Nursing

    Significant experience in a wide range of dentistry
    Demonstrate full commitment to supporting undergraduates to deliver high quality patient care and achieve their required educational standard

    Evidence of experience in service redesign and change of clinical financial management

    Ability to create and deliver training materials etc. Evidence of managing complex situations and patient complaints

    Personal Qualities
    Ability to meet travel requirements of the role
