Water and Waste business unit (WAW) is a true end-to-end business as part of Wärtsilä Portfolio Businesses.

Fixed term Operational Buyer.
We are now looking for a temporary Operational Buyer for 6 months to join our Fresh Water Purchasing team. The preferred location for the position is in Poole, Dorset, UK.


What you will be doing
As an
Operational Buyer, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage supplier relationships driving improved supplier performance, including supplier visits within the UK and overseas
  • Prepare Request for Quotations (RFQ's) and negotiate terms with potential suppliers.
  • Maintain SAP workflow tasks accordingly.
  • Work with Planning team to maintain optimised inventory levels whilst maximising performance to customers.
  • Ensure system data is effectively maintained, reorder policies are appropriate and MRP demand signals are interpreted to support efficient management of required materials.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Ideally CIPS qualified or working towards CIPS qualification.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to effectively communicate with and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with ERP and MRP systems (SAP an advantage)
  • Proven track record of driving improved supplier performance (cost, quality, delivery and responsiveness.
  • Commercially astute and experienced negotiator
In this role, some travel is required to meet with our Suppliers around the world.

Thus, we hope you to be ready to travel approximately 10%, even though most of the meetings are held virtually.
