Harmeny Education Trust is a sector leading children's charity, providing therapeutic care and education for children with complex additional support needs. We work on a day and all-year-round residential basis, supporting children and young people aged 5 to 18 years. The school is situated in a beautiful thirty-five-acre estate, which includes residential and education accommodation, mature woodland, community garden, orchard, wildlife habitats and children's play areas.
We are looking for a

  • The postholder will liaise with relevant staff regarding the levels of support required within the classroom and other learning environments. They will also be required to regularly communicate, as appropriate, with the Education Number One and Day Leader throughout the day, and with the Night Leader at the end of the school day.

  • Promote a positive ethos in the school consistent with HETL's Vision, Purpose and Core Values.
  • Meet on a daily basis with the Education Number One and Day / Night Leader, as appropriate.
  • Liaise with relevant staff regarding the levels of support required within the classroom and other learning environments.
  • Identify and coordinate staff support and communicate with all relevant parties regarding this.
  • Accurately maintain the Events Log.
  • Oversee the planning and coordination of break times.
  • Provide support for children, where possible and appropriate. This may include classroom support.
  • Support colleagues to manage the distressed behaviour of our young people.
  • Plan, purchase and organise the menu for our food and nutrition programme.
  • Be capable of implementing physical intervention techniques (where required, as a last resort).
  • Ensure HETL policies and procedures are followed, for example, in relation to Health and Safety, Child Protection and Absconding.
  • Regularly communicate, as appropriate, with the Education Number One and Day Leader throughout the day, and with the Night Leader at the end of the school day.
  • Attend supervision, training and other meetings, as required.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A relevant qualification equivalent to SVQ3 level / or willing to work towards.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • A positive and supportive attitude to children and staff.
  • Ability to be a good team member.
