- Hub Innovation: Find research opportunities, conduct market research, and develop partnership proposals in focus areas.
- Hub Industry Engagement: Drive research collaborations and contracts, secure research awards (focusing on AI in electronics), and manage key industry partnerships.
- Hub Outreach & Promotion: Represent the Hub at events and conferences, develop an engagement plan to maximize outreach.
- Hub Commercialisation: Support development and delivery of a commercialisation strategy for the Hub.
- Proven business development and commercial experience, ideally in both industry and academic organisations in the sciences sector
- A broad understanding of the electronics/engineering industry and/or research landscape
- Experience of working with companies on Research & Development, knowledge exchange and/or commercialisation
- Able to develop, maintain and grow influential relationships with key stakeholders
- Experience of working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to manage projects and deliver commercial outcomes
- Experience or good degree in a relevant scientific area
- Strong interpersonal skills; good communicator with excellent verbal and written communication

AI for Productive Research & Innovation in eLectronics
On behalf of the APRIL Hub, the and are seeking a Business Development Executive join their expanding team. The focus of this role is the development of opportunities for APRIL and the relevant partners/stakeholders to enhance, influence and adopt the next generation of AI technologies in electronics. .
About APRIL
With AI undergoing an era of explosive growth, the APRIL Hub seeks to adopt these technologies to accelerate the development of semiconductor technologies, novel microchip designs and system architectures.
As one of nine EPSRC funded AI Hubs, the University of Edinburgh is leading this national Hub with additional leads in Southampton, Cambridge, Kings College, Imperial, Belfast and Bristol. APRIL aims to transform the electronics industry by:
1) Developing and deploying new AI tools that accelerate and enhance the productivity of engineering research and development
2) Develop new fundamental knowledge in AI, and especially "AI with new capability" such as LLMs.
3) Develop a strong skills base for using AI tools in the UK.
4) Develop a UK community of industrial, government and academic players.
5) Develop early standards for AI tools/systems. This spans from technical standards on communications protocols and consistent AI system performance benchmarking to ethical and security standards to certification.
Role Focus
The APRIL BDE is expected to be visible, have a passion for engagement and above all, driven to see the Hubs research aspirations become a reality. Below are some of the core focus areas of the role.

Working Dynamic
The post-holder will report to the Bayes Centre Business Development Manager with dotted line responsibility to the Hub Director and work closely with the Hub Manager. The role will benefit from support from EI, as well as wider University of Edinburgh including the School of Engineering, and academic leads in other UK HE institutions.
