We are currently looking for a Fishery Assessor for our seafood business.

Working as part of a team based remotely, our Fishery Assessor performs an important role evaluating client fisheries around the world against various fisheries sustainability or responsible management standards that use market forces to promote the adoption of fisheries best practices.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Principal accountabilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in assessments and audits on behalf of a range of clients in the fisheries sectors against internationally recognised Fisheries Standards such as the MSC, RFM and Marin Trust sustainability standards.
  • Generate accurate, unambiguous, and objective reports following each audit and submit completed reports within agreed timescales.
  • Evaluate proposed fishery corrective actions following each respective audit and carry out technical review where required.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the requirements of each Fisheries schemes, as necessary.
  • Become familiar with standard owner databases and external support platforms.
  • Participate to fisheries certification decisionmaking process as a fisheries expert.
  • Support the Fisheries Scheme Manager in responding to findings and nonconformances in a comprehensive, timely and accurate manner to ensure corrective and preventative actions are implemented effectively.
  • Take part in face to face and online training sessions to maintain your competence and technical understanding as required.
  • Provide technical support to administration colleagues as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your Profile:


  • Degree or equivalent in seafood/fisheries science/marine biology and ecology/fisheries economics
  • Relevant experience in one or more of the core components of fisheries certification:
  • Working with the biology and population dynamics of commercially exploited species.
  • Research into, policy analysis for, or management of the impacts of fisheries on aquatic ecosystems including at least two of the following topics: bycatch, endangered, threatened, or protected species; habitats; ecosystem.
  • Highly organized and able to work to multiple tight deadlines.
  • Upholds policy, ethics and leads with integrity.
  • Excellent communicator (proficient level of written and spoken English)
  • Ability to work with persons from different culture and background.
  • Ability on your own and within a team environment, demonstrating flexibility to suit different people or situations where required.
  • Ability to travel for work and stay away from home periodically.

Additional qualifications and experience

  • Prior auditing experience with Fisheries Certification Program(s) such as Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Marin Trust, Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) or equivalent schemes.
  • Lead auditor (ISO qualification
  • Additional language(s) would be a distinct advantage.
