Somali Advisor:


An exciting opportunity has arisen to work directly with the Mayor of Tower Hamlets on issues and policy relating to the Somali community in the borough.

The Somali Advisor will work closely with the Mayor and council officers on developing initiatives, projects and work programmes in relation to the Somali community in Tower Hamlets.


We are looking for an experienced, confident and motivated individual, with in-depth knowledge of the issues facing the Somali community in Tower Hamlets, and experience of engaging with and working in communities.


The role will include:

  • To advise the Mayor on liaising and engagement with the Somali community particularly on access to Council services,
  • To advise the Mayor on initiatives and projects of special interest to the Somali community.
  • To liaise with Somali community groups and leaders on behalf of the Mayor.
  • To keep the Mayor updated on any issues affecting the Somali community, and advise on policy solutions.
  • To identify key events taking place in the Somali community, and attend with the Mayor when needed, or on the Mayor's behalf.
  • Working with CLT, Mayor's Office staff and other relevant council officers on issues relating to the Somali community.
  • Support the Mayor and Cabinet Members with any issues relating to the Somali Community.
