Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Actuarial Modelling Analyst to join our VEX (Valuation Extract) Systems team.

Reporting to the Head of Modelling, the team play a vital role in delivering initiatives designed to transform and elevate Actuarial Modelling and Reporting in Aegon.

The Role


This role focuses on working with programs used in actuarial modelling for the calculation of: Solvency II, IFRS, Group economic capital, value of new business and reinsurance treaties supporting the production of the valuation data extracts used by the actuarial models.

Underpinning these outputs, the role helps to maintain a centre of excellence in the VEX systems and surrounding control frameworks.


The role entails executing tasks from detailed timetables enabling us to meet the reporting requirements of modelling team and other customers.

The post-holder will be responsible for the production of data using these programs, which are used to derive the capital position of Aegon UK, as required by shareholders and regulators.

Part of this will be the design and development of SAS code to deliver the appropriate controls over process to ensure that the outputs meet the required level of completeness, appropriateness and accuracy.

Key responsibilities

As a VEX Systems Analyst you'll be responsible for;

  • Execution of tasks from the production timetables, ensuing outputs are reviewed for accuracy and meet all validation and control requirements
  • Carrying out all data control processes, actively considering their appropriateness for managing and controlling key risks in the process, documenting outcomes and judgements to sufficient detail for Senior Management, Risk and Audit review
  • Supporting data developments, working with the SAS toolset, ensuring that these are tested and reviewed for accuracy and delivered to agreed timescales
  • Contributing to project work as required to help ensure the Finance area as a whole can undertake change and development to meet reporting and regulatory obligations
  • Actively focus on the continuous improvement of the VEX Systems team, proactively promoting new ideas for improving processes and documentation, improving service to customers

Skills:

You'll have the following skills;

  • The ability to plan and prioritise effectively
  • Strong numerical and analytical ability
  • Sound judgement and ability to operate independently and objectively
  • A structured and thorough approach with the ability to simplify complex problems, processes or projects into component parts and be able to explore them systematically
  • Well developed communication and influencing skills and the ability to extract and convey relevant information in a concise and comprehensible manner with internal and external data providers and customers
Knowledge

You'll have;

  • An understanding of the UK financial services and regulatory frameworks, such as SOx, Solvency II and IFRS
  • Awareness of the data requirements for Actuarial modelling software e.g. Prophet
  • Experience of programming techniques and tools (Excel VBA, SAS etc)
  • Good working knowledge of current Aegon products and policy administration systems
