We currently have a part time vacancy for a Booking Clerk/Typist post based at Nottingham City Hospital.


We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated staff member who would like the opportunity to work in a fast paced positive developing environment.

The applicant should have excellent typing speed and accuracy, verbal and written communication skills, document presentation and audio typing skills

Production of patient letters

Liaising with clinical teams to ensure letters are completed in a timely manner

Patient transfers

Supporting with booking patient appointments

Reception support as required

Working for Therapies & Rehabilitation Pathway Outpatient A&C Team is a fast paced, busy but rewarding experience and you would be a highly valued member of our team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Accurate transcription of clinical and non-clinical letters using Winscribe digital dictation, including outpatient clinic letters, reports and miscellaneous correspondence


Typing of therapy reports and outpatient letters (using a wide range of medical terminology) from digital dictation transcription, direct dictation or handwritten information.


To be responsible for dispatching reports ensuring they are available both internally and externally to access within the necessary timescales.

***To provide support to the Therapy Outpatient Administration/Reception Team with patient transfers, filing, and production of patient labels

To respond to queries relating to reports/letters using judgment and initiative to ensure the appropriate action is taken.

***To be responsible and accountable for identifying potential problems at an early stage and take appropriate action to ensure the smooth running of the service.

To use judgement and initiative within defined guidelines to prioritise workload, ensuring that departmental targets are achieved.

To liaise with other Therapy administration staff to provide admin support across the service as necessary.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • GCSE English (Grade C or above) or equivalent
  • RSA II/NVQ II or equivalent in speed and accuracy
Desirable criteria

  • Medical Word Processing
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of audio/copy typing
  • Demonstrate understanding of patient/client confidentiality
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office packages
Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working in a healthcare/NHS setting
  • Previous use of hospital systems eg PAS / Notis
Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria

  • Must be able to clearly and accurately convey information
  • Must be understanding and helpful
  • Professional telephone manner
  • Maintain sensitivity and empathy in communication with patients/clients
  • Uses correct grammar and spelling
  • Legible handwriting
