    Job summary

    Turner Road Surgery has an opportunity for an administrator to join our busy practice support team, on a part-time basis for 25 hours per week preferably working Wednesday to Friday. Some flexibility is required as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.

    Main duties of the job

  • Undertaking a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice, including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team;
  • Data entry and read coding of relevant patient information and medical data into the clinical system;
  • Scanning patient information into computerised records, including medical documents, hospital records and letters, as necessary;
  • Read-coding the information into the partnership's clinical system;
  • Retrieving paper notes as requested;
  • Photocopying documents as required; and processing all documents in the workflow
  • Dealing with referrals to primary care;
  • Actioning tasks set by clinicians and the practice manager;
  • Processing practice post and emails;
  • Reviewing and summarising medical records;
  • Registering new patients;
  • Covering reception, as and when required;
  • Handling phone enquiries efficiently;
  • Processing prescriptions;
  • Reports.

    The Turner Road Surgery is a 2-partner, 3 salaried GP, training practice, with other clinical staff complimenting the team. The practice is within the partnership of the Creffield Medical Centre with a patient list of approximately 11,000 patients in the centre of Colchester.

  • Experience

  • Experienced medical administrators, with excellent IT and typing skills;
  • Adaptable and friendly, with strong administration, time management and organisational skills;
  • Excellent communicators able to work in a confidential and discreet manner;
  • Able to "think on their feet" in a busy working environment;
  • Able to multi-task, work hard and maintain a high level of attention to detail, when under pressure;
  • Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as comfortable working independently.
  • Primary care experience.
