Job Introduction

This role has a starting salary of £26,080 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week.


The Finance Assistant provides co-ordinated and comprehensive financial support throughout the Directorate in accordance with the County and Directorate Financial Procedures.

The role supports the budget planning and monitoring activities for the directorate budget.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with team members to provide a high quality and efficient finance service to support the Directorates overall aim to improve outcomes for children.


You will work together with the Finance Team Leader (FTL) & Senior Finance Assistant (SFA) to establish objectives and take responsibility for managing a workload, organising and prioritising work to meet strict financial deadlines.

Regularly updating the FTL & SFA on workload status, as well as raising any potential problems in meeting deadlines, you will work as part of a team and build positive relationships with team members and practitioners.


The Children, Schools and Families Directorate provides a range of highly specialist services to children and young people who are vulnerable, and/or have special educational needs including complex disabilities, or additional needs such as English as a second language.


Services are delivered directly to children and their families, to early years settings, to schools and alternative education settings, within extensive statutory frameworks.


To be considered for interview, you must clearly evidence:

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, or equivalent, or able to evidence ability at an equivalent level.
  • Financial qualification to NVQ Level 2/3, or able to evidence knowledge/understanding of relevant discipline.
  • Ability to work with others to improve customer service.
  • Able to prioritise and plan own workload in the context of conflicting priorities and work on own initiative.
  • A methodical approach to information gathering, recording and reporting.
