    Description

    This post affords you a tremendous opportunity to work within a highly-skilled department of surgery in a very large district general hospital within an NHS Foundation Trust. Delivering a wide range of open, laparoscopic, robotic and endoscopic procedures in both acute and elective settings, the department has ample opportunities for team members to gain and improve experience in all clinical environments.

    Whilst the post requires service provision in terms of ward care of patients, there are opportunities to work within the team in all other clinical areas as well. Encouragement and support for increasing your skills set, and broadening your scope of experience will be available within a conducive working environment. Guidance, supervision and assistance with your work will be provided by colleagues, middle grades and consultants.

    There are in-house courses, some mandatory courses, a clinical skills training laboratory, simulation training laboratory, a full-fledged education centre, learning department, fully operational e-learning modules and a well-stocked library with scientific journals and journal access services. Attendance at external and internal educational courses is actively encouraged

    Main duties of the job

  • Participation in 1:9 on-call rota. (See on call requirements for further detail)
  • Undertake duties on the ward, in the outpatient clinics and operating theatres
  • Assist the Consultant and Registrar in Theatre and undertaking minor surgical procedures under the supervision of either the Consultant or Registrar.
  • Progress monitoring of patients within the surgery Department
  • You will be expected to participate in audits, research, teaching and service improvement schemes.
  • You will be expected to arrange investigations, electronic documentation, VTE assessments, review on medications, discharge planning and preparation of TTO medications.

    Qualifications and Eductaiom

    Essential criteria

  • Medical qualification recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate
  • Registration

    Essential criteria

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • A minimum of 12 months UK clinical experience or equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 months Surgical experience
  • Desirable criteria

  • 12 months experience at Foundation level or equivalent
