Lorien's client (situated near Edinburgh and offering hybrid working, and a lot more) has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager with a background in mechanical design and CAD tools to join and lead one of their core technical teams.

Having introduced several individuals into this function ourselves, we know how well they treat their staff and how rewarding the work can be (the company has helped millions of people already and continue to improve lives across the globe), so this is agreat match for anyone looking to join a supportive organisation offering an opportunity to work on an exciting product line, and enjoy a hybrid working model (very commutable from Edinburgh and surrounding regions), a generous bonus scheme, and much more.

Snapshot of the duties involved:

  • Manage a team of Mechanical Engineers in an R&Dstyle, Agile work setting (around 6 direct reports including appraisals, progress reviews and so on)
  • Take charge across all areas of mechanical design & verification such as input to/analysis of tech requirements/specifications, design verification, test execution, CAD/design control process improvements, and more
  • Design & qualify mechanical solutions for existing product improvements and new product designs
  • Liaise with a wide scope of personnel from suppliers (for manufacturing methods and pricing of components/modules) to stakeholders such as Product Managers during the transfer of mechanical designs into manufacturing and others
  • Project and resourcing planning, equipment allocation and anything else required to ensure smooth delivery

What you'll bring to the table:

  • A strong background in the Mechanical (ideally but not necessarily Optomechanical) Engineering domain
  • Knowledge of mechanical design and qualification as well as previous dealings with CAD tooling (such as SolidWorks and/or CREO)
  • Proven record of leading a team, including line management/staff reviews/etc.
  • Ability to work in an Agile environment and liaise with internal and external personnel at any level
  • Previous work across estimation, planning, resourcing, execution, stakeholder engagement, tracking and delivery
