    Job summary

    Due to additional investment, an exciting opportunity to join an established Children in Care Nursing team has arisen for a fixed term post, covering maternity leave from May 2024 to April 2025. Although the service operates Monday to Friday, covering core hours of 9-5, there is a requirement to show flexibility to meet service needs and the needs of children and young people.

    We are looking for committed and creative individuals to be part of the team taking the next steps in improving health outcomes for our Children in Care.

    This vacancy is open to all internal and external candidates. NHS Employees should ideally secure their manager's agreement for a secondment arrangement ideally prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis as It has been established to provide cover for an employee on maternity this post is advertised on an acting / secondment basis there is the potential that this post may become permanent in the future.

    Main duties of the job

    We are looking to recruit motivated practitioners, with initiative and drive, and up to date knowledge of the Children in Care health agenda. You will work as part of a team delivering statutory health assessments and health interventions for a defined caseload. You will need to have a broad understanding of children and young people's health issues. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate flexibility and creative thinking in respect of service delivery.

    Knowledge of recent documents and strategies driving the development of services for Children in Care is essential as well as understanding the principles of safeguarding children and young people.

    Job responsibilities

    Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills are required with a commitment to team working as well as being able to demonstrate working using own initiative. You will work closely with GPs, community paediatricians, children and young people and their families, our partner agencies and Commissioners to deliver a quality service.

    An Enhanced DBS with checks against the Children's and Adults' Barred Lists will be obtained during pre-employment checks. Applicants will be required to see children and families face to face within a community setting.

    Essential

  • First Level RN (RSCN/ SCPHN-SN/SCPHN-HV)
  • Degree in health-related subject or equivalent significant experience
  • Experience

  • Experience of working in a community environment
  • Experience of working with Children and Young People
  • Able to work autonomously
  • Experience of caseload management
  • Understands the needs of Children in Care
  • Skills and Knowledge

    Essential

  • Excellent written communication skills, to include record keeping, report writing, data collection
  • Assessment of care needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of care plans
  • Good time management/ organisational skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of statutory guidance for Children in Care and national policies relating to children
  • Understanding of the management of change
  • Knowledge of Adverse Childhood experiences and the impact
  • Knowledge of complex Safeguarding issues
