- Reports directly to the Assistant Village Manager/Community & Economic Development
- Oversees the day-to-day functions of the Village's building division including plan reviews, building permit processing, inspection services, as well as building and life safety code enforcement.
- Enforces building, zoning, property maintenance, and storm water
- Serves as a single point of contact for construction project managers and "pivot point" to gain assistance and insight from other Village departments as needed.
- Performs a range of routine and complex inspections to ensure public safety before, during, and after construction activities.
- Responds to complaints and maintains detailed records of all work
- Manages several professional service contracts for plan reviews and inspections structural engineering plan reviews; elevator inspections; and fire safety plan reviews and inspections.
- Continuously enhances skills amid changing building technology and ICC

Lincolnshire, IL (population 7,900) The Village of Lincolnshire invites you to join its collaborative and dynamic team as its next Building Official in the Community & Economic Development Department (CED). Lincolnshire's Building Official should have a passion for helping residents and businesses achieve their dreams while balancing professional codes and community standards. CED consists of a five-person team working across departments to promote a seamless permit and construction process. The Building Official plays a key role in researching and recommending the adoption of construction codes, permit requirements, and the structure of fees/fines. The Village has existing contractual agreements to assist in plan review and inspection operations.
Key Responsibilities
Salary, Benefits, and Work Hours: The salary range for this position is $82,460 – $117,800. The starting salary will be commensurate with educational and professional experience. The Village offers a competitive benefits package including paid time off; medical, dental, and life insurance; and membership in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). Residency is not required.
This is a full-time, exempt position and requires sound judgment, initiative, and discretion. Typical business hours are 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday, though flexibility may be considered once the Building Official forms solid working relationships and demonstrates a mastery of administering the permit process. May require evenings and weekends in the event of emergency callouts.
