Salary - £24,082.00 pro rata, based on the full time equivalent of £30,102.50

Part time - 32 hours and 4 days per week.

22 months FTC

Role Purpose:


This post involves providing high-level general administrative and curatorial support to a team of senior curatorial staff and collections curators and provides a good opportunity to work with curatorial staff in a National collection.


Working with both the Tudor-Regency and Victorian-Contemporary teams, the post holder will be expected to research secondary and primary documentation for the purposes of statutory enquiries and acquisitions and assist with the development of a small number of exhibition and display projects.

The post holder will also provide support in the running of Departmental Research Seminars and assisting the Chief Curator in the preparation of papers for key institutional meetings.


Key Accountabilities:


Administrative and Curatorial:

  • To assist the Curatorial Director in preparing the papers and taking the minutes for the Curatorial offers meeting, researching and collating information and liaising with the Collections team
  • Researching and collating Trustees offers papers, including liaison with the Collections team, collation of information and proof reading
  • Undertaking proof reading and fact checking for cross collections information presented in marketing materials including 'What's On' and 'Face to Face' and other promotional texts
  • To assist with talks and events and changes to displays and interpretation in the permanent collection galleries, across all historical periods
  • To produce and edit material, written by others, relating to the Collection and the Department, for the Gallery intranet, website and social media
Acquisitions, Exhibitions and Displays

  • On occasion, assist with the process of commissioning portraits, helping to take forward relationships with sitters and artists and matters relating to the management and administration of a commission, including preparation of papers for Trustees meetings


  • Support the Tudor

  • Regency and Victorian
  • Contemporary curators in the development, research and delivery of Gallery exhibitions and displays
  • Supporting curators with collection displays including writing interpretation texts and assisting with installation as requested
  • Participating in various crossdepartmental initiatives and committees as requested by Chief Curator or Head of Team
Other

  • Promoting sustainable working practices and reducing the environmental impact of the Gallery's operations in line with its Sustainability Statement.
The postholder will be expected to demonstrate relevant knowledge and experience in relation to these aspects of the role.

Key Experience, Skills and Criteria:


  • A postgraduate qualification in the humanities, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Relevant experience within a museum or gallery environment.
Skills and Attributes

  • A demonstrable interest in British art, history and portraiture.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a number of tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Strong IT and keyboard skills and a high level of competence in Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook (including electronic diary).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to read situations quickly, identify a suitable approach and respond promptly and appropriately.
  • Excellent English and writing skills with experience of drafting minutes and correspondence.
  • Ability to convey key information clearly, accurately and succinctly
  • The post holder must be able to prioritise the work including responding quickly to requests for information
  • A confident, professional and measured approach to work and the ability to work flexibly and meticulously under pressure
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues within the curatorial team and across the Gallery
  • Demonstrates passion and approaches all work in an enthusiastic way
