We are seeking an Environmental Services and Sustainability Officer to join our team, working across both of our North Tees & Hartlepool NHS hospital sites.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive team, to help provide a high quality and efficient, customer orientated Environmental and Sustainability service, working within our hospitals.

The Environmental Services and Sustainability Officer will be the principal source of advice and guidance on environmental services to the LLP and will be responsible for assisting with:

  • Leading on strategy development across energy, waste and sustainability by steering and managing the energy, waste and environmental policies and programmes, ensuring the LLP is compliant with all environmental legislation and policies;
  • Improving the LLP's energy performance whilst meeting local and national targets through the costeffective purchase of utility supplies to ensure the LLP operates within the defined energy budget;
  • Delivery, implementation and monitoring of waste streams and their contracts including clinical, mixed and sanitary waste, ensuring compliance by LLP staff and by contractor;
  • Interpreting and implementing energy saving technology wherever practicable;
  • Development of environmental management standard and compliance procedures leading to certification of IS014001:2015;

  • Be self motivated and able to work flexibly and without direct supervision
  • Knowledge in waste management
  • Experience in supporting with projects
  • Effective communication skills; ensuring the Trusts energy, waste and sustainability vision is shared with Trust staff
  • Knowledge of environmental management standards and compliance procedures leading to certification of ISO14001:201
  • A demonstrable ability to assist managers with the establishment of new systems and contracts, and the effective management of the transition to business as usual service delivery.
  • Experience of being part of a team, holding proven expertise in strategically and operationally delivering and managing plans and strategies.
  • Able to help to develop associated works specifications and tender documentation as part of commissioning and procurement processes
  • Able to ensure that all related activity meets legislative requirements through professional knowledge and, where required, liaison with professionally qualified legal advisors.
