Freelance Cycle Instructor
Work as a Cycle Instructor for a growing company with exciting plans.

This requires an energetic, motivated and personable individual who has experience working with or coaching young people and be able to convey their own passion and knowledge for Cycling and Safe Cycling on the road.

Professionalism and reliability are equally important to maintain strong working relationships with clients and the current cycle instructor team.

First Step Cycle, part of the First Step Sports Group is a cycle training organisation specialising in the delivery of on road cycle training for all ages including; Bikeability levels 1, 2 and 3, community and adult cycle training.


First Step Cycle are one of the Yorkshire region's leading cycle training and events specialists, with extensive knowledge and hands on experience, with a dedicated in-house team of talented, qualified trainers and event professionals.


First Step Cycle are passionate about the people we train as well as promoting cycling and increasing the number of people cycling regularly, by building their competence and confidence.


The Position


We are seeking a qualified Cycle Instructor with experience working within this industry, you will work as required as part of a team to deliver fun, safe and informative Bikeability Training for pupils aged 9 years and older against the strict guidelines set in the National Standard by the Department of Transport.


This is an opportunity for a confident, qualified Instructor who can work independently and within a team and is committed to delivering quality cycle sessions, able to deliver and excel by prioritising both customer and company expectations.

- £12 - £15 per hour


Responsibilities:


  • Assist with the delivery of National Standard Cycle training as organised by First Step Sports.
  • Complete course paperwork including registers, assessments, course reports and results.
  • Complete risk assessments of the trainees, cycles, and the training area (including onroad locations).
  • Collection of consent forms at the start of training sessions.
  • Accountable for the safety and welfare of colleagues and trainees.
  • Ensure training is delivered in line with First Step Sports' health and safety policy with an awareness of accident and incident reporting procedures.
  • Enable trainees to cycle safely, promoting cycling as a means of transport and a fun, healthy activity.
  • Research and continuously develop skills.
  • Assisting with Cycle Promotion promotion/development

  • Adhere to the First Step Sports Delivery Standard.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

  • Regular and competent cyclist.
  • Understanding and awareness of road and traffic environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all trainees including children, parents and schools.
  • Be decisive, maintain good discipline, inspire confidence and give encouragement.
  • Be enthusiastic about cycling with an understanding of cycling as a sport, means of transport, leisure pursuit and healthy form of exercise.
  • Hold a Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training
  • Essential
  • First Aid and Child Protection Training
  • Desirable.
  • Understand basic cycle maintenance
  • Desirable.
  • 1 years' experience with children; teaching or voluntary.
  • GCSE Maths and English.
