  • Job descriptionThe Office of Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC) is looking for talented and experienced Early Intervention and Prevention Practitioners to join the team. We have lots of projects we want you to get involved in from supporting families who have experienced domestic abuse, supporting the Community Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV) programme, supporting families across Northamptonshire and engaging and helping young people to become confident, informed and empowered to be proud of who they are as unique individuals. You will have the ability to quickly establish positive relationships with diverse groups of young people, to respond flexibly to their needs and to the priorities of the Service. You will need to be a good communicator and able to advocate for young people.


You will draw on the principles of integrated working and signs of safety, working creatively with partner agencies to establish and deliver effective Tier 2 support for children, young people and families in line with the stated objectives of the Prevention Strategy and 'Early Help' principles.

You will provide initial direct support to families and young people. You will have experience of assessing vulnerability, exploitation and risk management.


You will be joining an established team of Early Intervention and Youth Work Practitioners who have extensive experience of holding a case load with a variety of presenting issues.

You will have the ability to engage people of all ages and use this as a teachable moment to empower change.

You will have proven experience of working in a range of settings with and have a can-do attitude and a passion for initiating positive outcomes for people.

OPFCC staff are home based but can work from Police and partner sites across the county.


This is a politically restricted post and requires successful completion of Police vetting.

Recruitment and Selection Policy


Internal applicants who are at risk of redundancy or in need of redeployment and pass the selection process, will be offered the role over the remaining internal and external applicants.

Please be aware that the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner and Northamptonshire Police are separate employers.

Although Police internal vacancies are open to OPFCC staff and vice versa, if you are successful, the change of employer will require a longer onboarding process and you will receive a new contract and payroll number.

Service with either employer can be carried over as continuous service.


Police Barred and Advisory lists


Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for employment by the Police or OPFCC for a minimum of 5 years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or 3 years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.
