Business Support Manager - The Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Operations Service for a Business Support Manager on a permanent contract.


The post holder will lead a team that provides a range of technical administrative duties as well as managing the commercial waste contracts and internal/external service level agreements.


Business Support Manager - Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Business Support team
  • Develop staff ensuring that staff levels reflect the demands of the service and flexible/generic working arrangements
  • Provide administrative support to all Operations' Service Unit Managers
  • Promote operational services to existing and new customers; liaise with managers and other operational staff to ensure effective and seamless service delivery
  • Establish and maintain appropriate monitoring systems and provide accurate management information including coordination and collation of all performance data within Operations for updating Pentana on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Ensure the completion of statutory returns including quarterly returns to the Environment Agency,
  • Defra (Waste Data Flow) and Recycling Credits to Essex County Council
  • Prepare reports and statistical information as required by SMT including coordination and analysis of customer surveys
  • Manage payments for goods or services received, having regard to the Council's standing orders and financial regulations
  • Lead on the Customer Service Excellence Award for Operations
  • Act as the Health and Safety Liaison Officer for Operations and discharge the responsibilities expected of the role including undertaking VDU assessments, annual fire checks/weekly testing/emergency lighting checks and ensuring Legionella compliance Unit
  • Ensure procedures for Operations' Business Support are up to date and reviewed, at least on an annual basis
  • Maintain callout rota and winter maintenance plan coordination
  • Operations first contact point to coordinate all Planning Consultations
  • Identify area of consultation and collate information for comments/deadlines
  • Manage, develop and motivate the Account Officers (Commercial Team).
  • Work with Operations' Service Unit managers to identify opportunities to Develop and implement improvements and innovations in service delivery, to create flexible, responsive and profitable services
  • Research and analyse information in respect of customer requirements, perceptions, satisfaction levels and complaints
  • Provide regular, monthly sales/business activity reports to SMT
  • Provide support for staff through mentoring, coaching and appraising performance on an ongoing basis

Business Support Manager - You:

  • Your essential skills will include negotiating and influencing, together with an ability to think creatively to develop processes, and procedures to maximise business efficiency
  • You will also possess strong communication skills, enabling you to provide professional technical advice and guidance to support front line managers
  • At operational level, you will have the ability to focus on the key issues, identify appropriate solutions and ensure compliance with corporate and legislative requirements
  • At Strategic level, you will have experience in building/nurturing partnerships with other organisations
