Are you passionate about vaccine development and excited about the prospect of contributing to ground-breaking research in the field of vaccine discovery? Baseimmune, a cutting-edge biotechnology company based in London, is seeking a talented Principal Scientist in Vaccine development to join our team.

    Who we are

Baseimmune is a discovery stage biotech start-up focused on developing cross-protective vaccines through computationally designed antigens. Founded by the team that pioneered computational approaches to design vaccines against infectious diseases at the Jenner Institute University of Oxford. Our mission is to revolutionise vaccines design by harnessing the power of computational biology, data analytics, and machine learning to generate longer lasting and mutation-proof vaccines.

    The role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced vaccine developer to join an interdisciplinary team located at the London Bioscience Innovation Centre in King's Cross, London. This is a full time, laboratory-based role.

As a principal scientist, you'll be responsible for leading, management, and execution of discovery and pre-clinical programs of novel cross-protective vaccines. This includes the design and production of vaccines at lab scale, testing in animal models, and assessing their performance using state of the art immunological approaches to advance our pipeline.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Leading and managing vaccine development projects from discovery to preclinical development.
    • Designing and executing preclinical studies to assess novel vaccine candidates.
    • Regularly communicate and present results to leadership teams.
    • Manage external projects with CROs and external collaborators.
    • Maintain familiarity with scientific and technical literature pertinent to the projects.
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate scientific insights into the development process.
    • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior team members.

    Essential Qualifications and Skills

    • Minimum Ph.D. degree with post-doctoral experience in immunology and pre-clinical vaccine development.
    • Proven experience with a strong scientific publication record in vaccine development.
    • Experience with protein production using in vitro systems (mammalian/insect and bacterial) and protein purification (FPLC).
    • Experience with immune assays such as flow cytometry, ELISA, ELISpot, and neutralisation assays for evaluation of immune responses.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Leadership skills with the ability to drive projects forward in a fast-paced startup environment.
    • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative research environment.
    • Comfortable with working with multiple projects.
    • Excellent organisational, record-keeping abilities, and oral and written communication skills.

    Desired skills

    • Expertise in general molecular biology (cloning, PCR).
    • Experienced in protein production and purification with AKTA FPLC systems.
    • Understanding of the vaccine pre-clinical development process in a biotech environment.

    What we offer

    • Competitive starting salary
    • Private medical health insurance
    • Opportunities for career growth
    • 26 days holiday leave + bank holidays
    • Enhanced sick pay
    • Pension plan
