- Successfully completed an ATLS and APLS provider course. Level 3 child protection training. To be on the appropriate GMC Specialist Register or eligible for admission within six months of interview. To be registered (or eligible for registration), with the General Medical Council and hold a current Licence to Practice. To be on the Specialist Registrar for neurophysiology
- Higher degree. Current ATLS provider status. Postgraduate prizes and awards. Other medical qualifications. Experience outside specialty.
- Demonstrate evidence of good general training. Attended appropriate basic specialty courses. Demonstratable evidence of good specialty training in neurophysiology. Evidence of ability to perform advanced neurophysiological procedures relevant to the post. Evidence of Ability to lead a team. Previous experience of working as a neurophysiology consultant
- Understanding of NHS. Good time management. Demonstrate evidence of wide based knowledge. Attended appropriate courses/meetings in the last 6 years covering the spectrum of the entire specialty. Comprehensive knowledge of Neurophysiology specialty. Attended appropriate courses, fellowships or equivalent. Attended advanced courses in neurophysiology. Comprehensive knowledge of neurophysiology
- Presentations or publications in peer reviewed journals. Evidence of ability to conduct clinical audit. Evidence of a research interest and clinical audit Presentations at local/regional/ national/international meetings. Publications and presentations in area of neurophysiology. Desire to develop a collaborative research output with the scientists.
- Current research. Research in a specialty interest or trauma. Extensively published. Presentations at local/ regional/national/ international meetings. Demonstrate an enthusiasm to continue with research and clinical audit. Relevant audit projects. Statistical knowledge.
- Evidence of ability to teach clinical and practical skills. Demonstrable experience in teaching junior doctors and scientists.
- Evidence of experience and ability in teaching. Supervision of projects. ATLS instructor. Training the trainers course or equivalent. Teaching qualification. Evidence of enthusiasm and experience in teaching
- Well-presented CV. Ability to work in a team. Ability to delegate appropriately.
- Evidence of good communication skills. Information technology skills. Leadership skills.
- Willingness to participate in management process. Participated in some sort of management process (i.e. service evaluation or research).
- Evidence of interest and ability in management. Recognised management qualifications. Experience of departmental accreditation processes.
- Full UK Driving Licence Ability and willingness to work hours of the job, shifts, on-call with any reasonable adjustments to take into account local requirements or disability.
- To have access to own transport to fulfil duties on the role.

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHPNT) wishes to appoint a replacement Neurophysiology Consultant to replace our clinicians who retired in November 2023. These are replacement substantive posts to help our current establishment of Neurophysiology scientists to meet the demands of an increasing in- and out-patient workload, and to contribute to the development of a forward-thinking and ambitious department.
The UHPNT Neurophysiology Department is a dynamic and welcoming team with a clear vision to provide the best care possible to our patients. We would encourage applicants to collaborate in the development of a Neurophysiology Service that is fit for purpose and sustainable in the new NHS environment. The appointee will also be encouraged to take an active and enthusiastic part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research.
We will, however, work with any successful candidate to develop a job plan that meets their needs and interests, whilst complementing the expertise of colleagues within the department and supporting the continued delivery of a high-quality service for our patients. Flexible and/or less than full time working, including job sharing, will be accommodated for any candidate(s) to whom this is important, with arrangements to be discussed and agreed on an individual basis.
