    We are currently looking for an experienced psychologist to join our very well-established Adult Eating Disorders Service team based at St Marks in Maidenhead.

    As a Psychologist in our team you will play an important role in the provision of a highly specialist psychological therapy service. You will provide specialist psychological assessments, care planning and a range of evidence-based psychological interventions to individuals and their families. You will work one to one with our patients but also provide group-focused psychological interventions to support the recovery of people with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and co-existing conditions and mental health difficulties.

    Working as part of a multidisciplinary team and with professionals across agencies this role will provide you with a lot of variety in your day-to-day work. You will primarily be based at either St Marks Hospital in Maidenhead or in our NHS site at the University of Reading campus.

    As a service we are very committed to the development of our staff and offer both internal and external training opportunities.

    The role is Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm and we are open to both full and part time applicants.

    Main duties of the job

  • Work as part of BEDS Adult team, providing specialist assessments, develop comprehensive formulations and therapeutic intervention to clients referred to the service in line with most recent evidence and service models
  • Participate in and provide regular supervision
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of psychological interventions in the service, consisting of both group and individual treatments
  • Use a broad theoretical knowledge base and specialist clinical skills to develop and support the psychological skills of less experienced staff members (assistant psychologists and members of other staff groups) via the development and delivery of teaching, training, supervision, support and consultation
  • Liaise and work closely with community, inpatient, crisis teams and other internal and external teams/services, providing consultation and joint working as required to best meet the needs of the client group, support recovery and manage risk

    Job responsibilities

    The must haves for this role:

  • HCPC registered Psychologist with a doctorate in counselling or clinical psychology
  • Good knowledge of psychological models relevant to eating disorders
  • Previous experience working in a mental health setting
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time to work flexibly in response to service demand

    Education/Qualifications/Training

    Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology
  • Registered and accredited with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Eligible for graduate membership of BPS (British Psychology Society) and for Chartered Clinical Psychology status and membership of the Division of Clinical Psychology
  • Desirable

  • Specialist experience/training in eating disorders.
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology/ psychotherapy
  • Continuous Professional Development

  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the professional body.
  • Staying up to date with evidence based practice in relevant field.
  • Previous Experience

    Essential

  • Will usually have at least two years demonstrable post-qualification experience and interest of working in mental health services with multidisciplinary teams / multi-agency environment.
  • Experience of working with presenting problems throughout whole life course that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of services (and working as part of multi-disciplinary teams internal and external to the organisation) across a wide variety of patient groups, throughout the whole life course and with service users with cases of a high degree of complexity
  • Experience of managing highly complex situations concerning safeguarding and risk management.
  • Experience of delivering agreed/specified service targets and effective time management in a busy and demanding environment.
  • Experience with routine outcome monitoring, audit and clinically related research

  • Experience of assessments and comprehensive formulation for Eating Disorder difficulties
  • Experience of working with service users with eating disorders
  • Experience of the application of psychology/ psychotherapy in different cultural contexts
  • Experience of teaching as well as experience of developing training programmes and delivering supervision of junior staff

  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Well skilled in being able to establish rapport and build relationships with clients and carers. Ability to relate well to professional colleagues and to build and maintain effective working relationships within all levels of the organisation
