Applications are invited for the post of a Medical Devices Acquisition Programme Facilitator to work within Healthcare Sciences and Technology.

The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the Medical Devices Senior Project Manager and will be required to participate in supporting the administration and delivery of the Medical Devices Acquisition Programme


Applicants for this Band 4 post are required to have obtained Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration or equivalent clinical or technical experience, to have a well-developed aptitude for working with IT systems including database and record keeping systems.

The Medical Devices Investment Programme is part of the Healthcare Science and Technology service line at Derriford Hospital.

This is a dynamic programme that exists to ensure that there is sufficient investment in medical devices that meets the needs of patient care and reflects the demands of 21stcentury healthcare.

This includes the replacement of current devices, investment in new technology and the acquisition of devices to support strategic developments in patient care and delivery.

To work with and support the Medical Devices Acquisition Project Team:
Provide project and administrative support to the Medical Devices Investment Programme (MDIP) (Previously RRP).


Assist in the organisation and delivery of medical device acquisition projects including trials, evaluations, delivery & commissioning, and user training.

Assist in the development of device specification with users and other specialist advisors.

Undertake audits of the medical device asset register for the purposes of planning equipment replacement.

Review equipment reliability statistics to support equipment replacement planning.

Support the assessment of risk based medical device replacement programmes.


Support the planning and preparation of a three-to-ten-year MDIP across multiple medical devices and imaging modalities using risk profiling techniques.


Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification

  • Participate in the assessment, planning and delivery of the Medical Devices Investment Programme (MDIP).
  • Participate in the riskbased assessment of the medical devices inventory for the purposes of replacement planning with clinicians and device users.
  • Undertake audits of the device inventory for the purpose of validation and replacement planning.
  • Review equipment reliability statistics to support equipment replacement planning.
  • Meet with clinicians and device users with the project lead to understand requirements and support the development of Device Specifications.
  • Attend meetings with suppliers (with Medical Devices Project Team member(s)) to understand the capabilities benefits and limitations of available and future technology.
  • Participate in project and reference group meetings relating to the replacement and acquisition of medical devices.
  • Support the Medical Devices Acquisition Project Team in providing support to Service Line Managers in the development of business and service delivery plans requiring investment in the replacement or acquisition of medical devices.
  • Support clinical staff and appointed clinical educators to arrange device training related to the medical device replacement and acquisition.
  • Help arrange and support clinical evaluations and trials required of device tenders with all parties, internal stakeholders, and external company representatives.
  • Assist in the provision of compliance assurance relating to device replacement and acquisition.
  • Support the Clinical Engineering Service in matters relating to device replacement, acquisition, delivery, and commissioning.
  • Maintain records of risk assessments, replacement plans, replacement projects, technology assessments, specifications, and preacquisition questionnaires.
  • Communicate with specialist advisors and service providers in relation to the replacement and acquisition of medical devices.
  • Assist in the development of the specification of nonmedical devices and furniture used within a clinical environment with users and Procurement specialists.
  • Provide administration support to the Medical Devices Investment Programme & Team
  • Organise meetings with key stakeholders and external representatives as and when projects demand.
  • Take and produce notes and/or minutes of project and reference group meetings where necessary.
  • Produce, update, and maintain spreadsheets for the purpose of assessment, planning and the replacement/acquisition of medical devices.
  • Support the maintenance of the medical devices Inventory in relation to MDIP.
