Job description:


This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our Finance team as our Accounting Assistant and contribute to the continuous improvement environment we are proudly developing.


As an Accounting Assistant, you will be working closely with the Management Accountant, preparing, posting, and providing information on transactions, purchase ledger, banking and payments.

You will also assist with the preparation of the management accounts and related transactions.

VCA would love the opportunity to develop you to become a vital part of our team.

You will have the opportunity to study an accountancy qualification, if you're not already qualified, or allow you to study further.

You will also benefit from colleague knowledge sharing, access to a broad network of eLearning through the Civil Service, as well as opportunities to attend external training courses to further develop your knowledge.


Responsibilities

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Processing of supplier payments, bank transfers and customer refunds via the banking system and journaling these transactions, where applicable, into the accounting software.
  • Monitoring the purchase ledger and compiling creditor reports.
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly management accounts, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Assisting with all forms of the management of the Agency's Fixed Asset Register, including Additions, Disposals, Transfers and Deprecation.
  • Maintaining the Agency
- s procurement system by adding and removing staff, updating approval limits and ensuring the agencies guidance on procurement is followed.

  • Corresponding with internal stakeholders on report and analysis requests and providing such information in a timely manner.

Person specification:


The essential criteria for this role is:

  • Experience of working in a finance team, with a good understanding of the key accountabilities as listed above.
  • Team player, customer focussed and able to effectively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders, offering advice and resolving queries.
  • Ability to prioritise and work accurately under pressure.
  • Excellent attention to detail and good analytical and problemsolving skills, as well as proficiency with accounting software and excellent Excel skills.
