    We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, registered nurse with a passion for caring for oncology patients to join our dedicated team in the brand-new Christie at Macclesfield.

    We are a caring, well-led unit with a good staff to patient ratio. We are a day case unit offering treatments to all specialties.

    Main duties of the job

    The Role and Team

    On appointment you would receive a comprehensive supernumerary training package, in which you have exposure to different anti-cancer treatments in different disease group fields and complete the UKONs SACT passport.

    You will gain experience in treating a variety of patients with potentially curative diseases, alongside palliative and clinical trial treatments. During your supernumerary period you will spend time at the main Christie hospital Oak Road Treatment Centre in addition to the opportunity to spend time in other SACT Outreach locations and the Christie at Home team.

    Job responsibilities

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide a supportive role within the SACT unit at the Christie at Macclesifled for nursing, medical and clerical Staff
  • Undertake the nursing care of patients, ensuring privacy & dignity is maintained whilst being aware of physical and psychological need
  • To give a clear and accurate update at change of duties and ensure accurate documentation of nursing intervention
  • To participate in the rehabilitation of patients and give any necessary instructions, including discharge informatio
  • Participate in nursing procedures appropriate to the departmen
  • Support and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/Health Care Assistants acting as mentor to designated staf
  • To welcome patients to the unit and its routin
  • Be able to act as ward co-ordinator and ensure the safe and timely management of patient
  • To liaise with medical and non medical personnel and community organisation
  • Rotate to ground floor clinic management where required so support in outpatients
  • To highlight areas of improvement/development within the department and undertake relevant project
  • To act as support for other nurses in relation to SACT and oncology car
  • Safely deliver SACT to Christie patients attending the uni
  • Assist in the provision of meals / refreshments for patients whilst meeting their nutritional need
  • Assist in the general housekeeping duties of the unit
  • Help to maintain a safe environment and report faults/risks etc to the nurse in charg
  • Liaise with nurse responsible for stores/stationery and ordering and assist in the maintenance of stock level
  • Handles patients personal possessions, ensure cash and valuables kept securel
  • Correct care and custody of controlled drugs and aid the safe storage of medicines and the return of any unused chemotherapy to pharmac
  • Assist medical staff with procedure

  • EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • The staff nurse is responsible for their own personal development and maintaining a personal development pla
  • To complete the Ward introductory pack and preceptor pac
  • Complete Clinical Skills Training and the UKONs SACT passpor
  • Annually attend all mandatory study days including Resuscitation, AIMs, moving & handling and fire safet
  • To complete level 3 SACT administration programme to administer cytotoxic drugs and educate patients regarding their treatmen
  • To be working towards band 6 equivalent competency pack

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • RGN Level 1 or 2
  • Qualification in Adult Nursing
