Due to recent investment and expansion of the general surgery team, an amazingopportunity has arisen for you to join us as a highly motivated Admissions Clerk and Support Secretary at Ipswich Hospital.

This is a key role in the department and you will be a highly valued member of the team.


We have full time, 37.5 hours per week weekdays available, however we would also accept part time with a minimum of 25 hours per week.

We have flexibility in regards to working hours.


We have permanent posts available and also a fixed term until 31st March 2024.For the fixed term post, internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only.

As an Admissions Clerk and Support Secretary you will play an integral part in patients receiving their surgical treatment including cancer treatments.

You will ensure their journey runs smoothly which helps reduce waiting times.


As part of your role you will liaise with multiple teams within the trust, including radiology, pre-assessment and the theatre department.


Working closely with the secretarial team and consultant body you will be responsible for booking a patient for their surgery and booking outpatient pre-operative assessments.

You will ensure your consultants' theatre lists are scheduled, prioritised due to clinical urgency and are fully utilised.

Other duties include typing patient letters and notes as dictated by the team and audit dictations. You will deal with queries from patients and book appointments. You will also assist the team with other admin tasks.

If you are passionate about patient care and want to develop your skills and knowledge then we are keen to hear from you.


The post holder will often be the first point of contact for patients and will be required to deal with queries from GPs and other medical teams regarding patient care.

This role requires autonomy and teamwork, being flexible to support and cover colleagues in the department.


As part of a team, the post holder will also support the provision of an efficient and comprehensive secretarial support service to the Consultants and medical staff as well as provision of Theatre Admissions for the surgical departments.

The Support secretary will support maintaining a high level of audio typing, delivering accurate and up to date typing of clinic letters and correspondence via digital dictation / audio to a range of stakeholders including patients and GP's.
