    Service purpose:

    To carry out the instructions of the StreetScene Operations Manager with minimal supervision, either as a member of a team, or individually, to deliver StreetScene Services against the following purposes for the people of East Devon using available resources, doing what is required, when it is required, to meet demand and achieve service standards:

    • Maintain and keep safe the environment for our customers
    • Give customers advice about their environment
    Job purpose:

    Routine cleansing (street bin emptying, cleaning of public toilets, litter picking) of assigned round and/or seasonal grounds maintenance on Council owned land (grass and hedge cutting) in accordance with safe systems of work and health and safety requirements in order to maintain our outstanding environment.

    Core accountabilities:

    1. Cleansing:
    2. Emptying street litterbins and collecting debris / litter on foot or in a vehicle
    3. Cleaning public lavatories and other public buildings
    4. Sweeping the footpaths and channels as necessary
    5. Clearing the beaches of litter and detritus.
    6. Grounds Maintenance
    7. Grass cutting and strimming.
    8. Hedge pruning.
    9. Digging, bedding and planting.
    10. Hoeing and weeding.
    11. Using mechanical plant, equipment and vehicles to assist teams throughout the District as directed, achieving StreetScene standards and objectives.
    12. Assist with bin emptying and cleansing for EDDC Events as required
    13. Make sure that the StreetScene Operations Team offers a customer focused service using systems thinking principles.
    14. Support the Council's approach to equalities and diversity ensuring that our services and policies identify, address and promote the needs of our diverse community. This includes the need for safety of children and other vulnerable people.
    15. Take personal responsibility for the relevant aspects of the Council's Health and Safety Policy.
    16. Ensure awareness and compliance with the Council's policies, Code of Conduct and Constitution.
    17. Evaluate and assist in managing risk within the Service.
