The Radiotherapy service at QEHB, with circa 100 staff, provide approximately 4500 new patients per year with world class radiotherapy treatments. The service is of the highest calibre and makes us a leading department, providing exemplary patient care twinned with the latest in Radiotherapy technology.

Due to a member of staff relocating we have an opportunity for a Neuro-Oncology Radiographer to join our amazing team. Your predecessor developed and implemented this specialist role. Their passion for working with neuro-oncology patients determined the way in which they approached and expanded the role.

Wanting to provide the best care and treatment possible, they worked hard to expand their knowledge and attended oncologist led clinics to support patients throughout their radiotherapy pathway. They worked closely with colleagues to be competent at delineating organs at risk, independently reviewed patients and became an independent prescriber to support patients and manage side effects of treatment. If you feel you can continue with this amazing work, are driven to help develop the care we provide, have a genuine interest in neuro-oncology, are emotionally resilient, compassionate, empathetic and a team player, then this could be the role for you.

You will also be joining a team who have a strong commitment and passion for radiographer development, and there have been opportunities for our staff to present their work at prestigious conferences such as ESTRO and UKIO.

As the Neuro-Oncology Radiographer your day will be varied and a full list of the main duties of the role can be found in the attached job specification. However as a key member of the team we would expect you to:

Work with a wide multi-disciplinary team

Attend new patient clinics, supporting the patient through their radiotherapy journey

Take responsibility for the management, leadership and development of the pathway

Be committed to expanding your knowledge and skills for interpretation of MRI sequences

Cover one day a week clinically to maintain and develop your clinical competencies, working on CyberKnife is a potential option

Escalate and triage queries to the wider MDT

Opportunity to audit and present findings at meetings

Take on the key worker role for the duration of the radiotherapy pathway, focussing on liaising and supporting patients, carers and families.

Work with the wider band 7 team on operational input into the department and staff related matters

Mentor, coach and support the development of junior staff
