    Department Overview: Our team plays a pivotal role in providing real-time market risk analysis globally, serving as a cornerstone for effective management control in oil trading strategies. We are tasked with diligently monitoring market risk exposures related to commercial activity and reporting directly to Front Office and Management on a daily basis. This includes scrutinizing trading profit and loss, managing market risk exposure, overseeing Derivative Clearing Accounts, and conducting pertinent ad-hoc analyses. As the primary control function within the trade cycle, we ensure precise and equitable market analysis adhering to both external and internal standards, collaborating seamlessly with various departments to uphold reporting accuracy.

    From a commercial standpoint, we offer invaluable insights to the Front Office, shedding light on exposure, optionality, and profit/loss. These insights are indispensable in guiding commercial decisions and optimizing portfolio opportunities.

    Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate closely with the Front Office team to meticulously analyse, quantify, and elucidate sources of market risk for all trading activities.
    • Verify trade entries, encompassing physical and derivative transactions, within the CTRM system (Symphony).
    • Provide daily reports on exposure position, pricing, and hedging strategies.
    • Deliver daily reports on trading profit/loss, providing insightful commentary to senior management on market movements and operational changes.
    • Independently validate economics for each trading strategy.
    • Coordinate and execute price validation in the CTRM system, including necessary curve updates.
    • Monitor timely deal capture, internal trading limits, and risk policy requirements to ensure transaction accuracy and integrity.
    • Engage daily with Operations staff on various aspects of physical oil logistics, quality, and operational costs, accurately updating relevant trades in the trading system.
    • Collaborate with the Financial Control team on accounting matters or trade/cost capture, adhering rigorously to company guidelines and accounting principles.
    • Work closely with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal & Compliance, and Business Unit Control to uphold best control practices, operational efficiency, and policy/limit compliance.
    • Offer ad-hoc trader support and analysis, conducting in-depth research on market structure, spreads, price movements, cargo movements, P&L investigations, and more.
    • Aid in the daily VAR reports for the local office.
    • Provide support in identifying and implementing process improvements, ranging from system testing to desk-level processes.

    Expectations:

    • Demonstrate the ability to challenge Front Office, Risk, and Middle Office when necessary, appropriately escalating issues.
    • Tackle new, unique, or complex issues adeptly, structuring and documenting them effectively for team understanding and resolution.
    • Proactively identify process improvements, driving ideas forward within the team, and fostering close collaboration with stakeholders and developers.

    Experience:

    • Possess 2+ years' experience in commodity markets, ideally as a risk analyst, product control, or Middle Office professional, with a preference for experience in the oil market.
    • Exhibit a fundamental understanding of trading concepts (MTM and risk metrics).
    • Showcase strong analytical skills.
    • Demonstrate the ability to thrive in a global team environment.
    • Exhibit effective communication skills.
    • Display strong proficiency in MS Office (particularly Excel), with additional coding skills being advantageous (e.g., VBA, SQL, Python, Database, C#, AngularJS).
    • Hold a degree with a strong mathematical inclination.
