POSITIONOVERVIEW

The CertifiedSurgical Technologist (CST) provides necessary support to the ORPACU and Day Surgery areas. He/she keeps assigned areas cleansanitary aseptic and attractive by following department cleaningprocedures. The CST assists the staff with the preparation ofequipment and supplies needed for procedures. He/she may be askedto assist with clerical or other nonnursing administrative dutiesrelated to the department. The CST assumes other duties as assignedby the Director or designee

ACCOUNTABILITY

Accountable to: Director of Surgical Services or in theabsence of the Director is responsible to the Surgery ChargeRN.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION

Experience:

• Minimum oneyear hospital surgical backgroundpreferred

Education:

• Must have at least aHigh School graduate or equivalent (GED)
• Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist Courseor equivalent experience is required
• Mustpossess a basic and thorough knowledge of the functions andphilosophies of the OR Department

Licenses Certifications and/or Registration:

• Current certification bythe Association of Surgical Technologists required

EMR System:Meditech

Shift:Days MF 8 hours Primarily day shift hours do varyaccording to the OR schedule and there will be oncall hours.Holidays are normally off unless you are oncall.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Demonstrate knowledge of asepsis and steriletechniques
• Ability to work swiftly andskillfully under stressful circumstances
• Ability to work with a myriad of physicians
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of surgical instrumentsand equipment
• Ability to lift forty (40)pounds from floor to waist and from chair to bed level
• Ability to pull fifty (50) pounds from stretcher tobed
• Ability to push fifty (50) pound stretcher300 feet
• Ability to lift five (5) poundsoverhead
• Demonstrates accurate judgment anddecisionmaking ability consistent with Surgical Technologistsknowledge and skills
