Job summary:


This is a unique opportunity to perform a role at the heart of the directorate, working across the entire spectrum of the Digital Infrastructure agenda and being party to decisions and issues at the most senior level of the team.

You will work very closely with the Senior Leadership Team and have daily contact with seniors and ministers offices in DSIT.


This role sits at the centre of our team, supporting the Director to deliver our ambitious agenda and ensure we continue to be a great place to work.

You will be a vital part in providing a high quality private office service to the Director, working closely with the Head of Office and Executive Assistant to drive forward the Director's priorities and ensure the flow of work throughout the directorate.

You will be the Director's first point of contact within the directorate.

You will solve problems as they arise, ensure that they are briefed for meetings, take meetings or review documents on their behalf as appropriate, and act as the key link between the Director and the rest of the directorate and external stakeholders.


Job description:


  • Assist in the running of the Director's Private Office.
  • Manage the Director's inbox and workflow from the directorate.
  • Manage and triage all requests, acting as the first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships with the DSIT senior team and other Private Offices across the department working closely to progress joint priorities and understanding where the directorate's work fits into these.
  • Commission briefings from the directorate and ensure that the Director is appropriately briefed for all meetings, and clear next steps are agreed after meetings.

Support the running of the wider directorate:

  • Support the running of the wider directorate by tracking and coordinating workstreams across the directorate and leading and coordinating actions decided by the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Communicate senior priorities to the wider directorate, and help to facilitate a good channel of communication between the directorate and the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Feed into wider directorate corporate workstreams.
  • Lead on meetings on the Director's behalf as required.
Team Management

  • Provide line management to 2 Band C Executive Assistants.
  • Support the Band A in leading a happy and effective team, which models smart ways of working and promotes wellbeing.

Person specification:


Essential Requirements

  • The ability to work at pace, making decisions in the face of a range of competing views and priorities and being calm and resilient in pressurised situations.
  • Strategic thinking to understand the sensitivities of the brief and spot the key issues for the Director before they arise.
  • The ability to form effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Strong organisation skills and attention to detail, with the ability to process a large flow of information and synthesise key messages.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior members of the directorate with confidence and clarity.

Desirable Skills

  • SC Clearance
  • Experience in a private office setting
  • Management experience
