Ibk is a community based, not-for-profit social enterprise with over 20 years' experience of providing Direct Payment Support to families, children and adults of all ages with a range of needs. We run a successful befriending service, providing bespoke support to young people under 18 to lead happy and independent lives.


IBK are in search for a befriender for a family and their 12 year old son in the S17 area of Sheffield.

Being a befriender will mean supporting the young person to be more confident around others and build their independence in social situations.

This young person has a love of gaming, riding his scooter ad going to skate parks. He communicates verbally very well and people around say he is a very clever young man.

He has a diagnosis of ASD, ADHD and Tourettes, PDA (pathological demand avoidance) profile, sensory processing difficulties, Anxiety, motor coordination, heightened auditory processing and tactile over sensitisation.

Due to his multiple diagnosis's he needs a skilled and confident befriender to support him.


This young person can struggle to regulate his emotions and due to his PDA profile can find it hard to have demands places upon him.

He needs a befriender who can set boundaries in a subtle way and come from a place of mutual support and co-opertive working rather than as a authority figure.


Person Specification:

Essential

  • Experience of supporting someone with autism, PDA and / or dual diagnosis
  • Willing to learn from the young person and his family
  • Be friendly and reliable
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Be respectful in the family home
  • Be creative in your personal approach
  • Have a genuine desire to enhance the young person's life and boost their self confidence in social situations
  • A car driver
Desirable

  • An understanding of the nature of this type of support work
  • Things in common with the young person; you may share interests and hobbies which you can share
