    Job summary

    We offer a flexible approach to division of roles and responsibilities within our small friendly and experienced practice team. The clinical teams are also well supported by an excellent administration and management team; this allows our GPs to concentrate on clinical work. We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced GP looking to take a leading role in improving patients' outcomes especially in areas such as diabetes and contributing towards redesigning services locally by representing the practice at PCN and ICS level.

    We host various trainees (GP Speciality training Registrars, Pre Reg-Pharmacists, Nursing Associate etc.) We are keen to recruit a GP who is willing to mentor some of our current trainees or students in the practice. You will be a team player who is keen to support and contribute to our program of continuous improvements and clinical meetings and work with us to ensure we maintain our high QOF results.

  • Main duties of the job

    The Practice Clinical Lead provides leadership and accountability inIntraHealth for the delivery of a safe, efficient, and reliable clinicalservice achieving the standards set out within the contract at its inceptionand to improve upon the quality of the service.

    They may manage more than one related clinical service, so long as theyare not over committed, or manage a single Practice site overseeing theclinical services running within the practice.

    The Practice lead will also be expected to provide clinical services topatients registered on the practice list as set out in the Salaried GP jobspecification.

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

  • Deliver Primary Medical Services via surgeries, clinics and visits as defined via the job plan.
  • Make professionally autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred internally within the organisation.
  • Receive patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and make assessment of their health care needs.
  • Develop with the patient a care plan for health.
  • Provide counselling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from caseload and refer them to other care providers internally or externally as appropriate.
  • Work with and support other health professionals within the team to ensure best care for patients.
  • To provide clinical leadership for the delivery of the clinical service.
  • The identification and implementation of the key processes, both primary and internal, that support the clinical service.
  • To understand how the steps of these key processes add value to the patient.
  • To appoint appropriate individuals to lead the key processes; and
  • To promote the IntraHealth vision of health delivery to all participants who deliver the clinical service.
  • Be involved in the recruitment of good quality staff and support the systems for mentoring, appraisal (including of communication skills) professional development and support.

  • Ensure action plans are implemented for areas of non-achievement of targets and quality standards.
  • Provide Clinical support in the management of complaints ensuring compliance with the complaints procedure and that all complaints are resolved within timescales set.
  • Review and feedback on staff performance.
  • Review significant events and clinical incidents.
  • Review patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Ensure contingency plans and escalation procedures are effective.
  • Ensure there is a policy for record keeping including written and other media and the passage of information to staff that complies with Data Protection, Access to Records and Freedom of Information.
  • To be involved in the recruitment of clinical staff.
  • Provide mentorship and support to nurses in the practice undergoing non-medical prescribing and advanced clinical skills development.
  • Support the development of the clinical roles of other health care professionals to complement the GP role.

  • Knowledge of National Primary care agenda, including experience of managing professional issues, and fitness to practice.
