The Senior Engineer – Welding & Frame Assembly is responsible for creating the process and the specification for Welding, structural bonding / assembly facility for iStream superlight frame production.

Key Responsibilities

• Support current and new model activities.
• Liaise with other departments and suppliers to ensure process targets are met for production.
• Create production process and facility strategies, create action plans from development to launch which meets project requirements for production and business plan.
• Develop and standardise work instruction for each production process.
• Carry out problem solving activities.
• Work together with GMAE / GMA production members to continuously improve / develop manufacturing process.
• Determine what technical data and information is required and support creating design and manufacturing guidelines for the frame assembly (Welding, mechanical and structural adhesive fixing) within the vehicle primary structures.
• Create facility implementation plans and schedule Process development activities to provide manufacturing deliverables that meet required specifications within timescales and budgets.
• Liaise with other members of the Manufacturing Engineering Team to create 2D layouts.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Qualified in approved ISO welding qualifications below or equivalent of BS EN ISO 9606-2: Qualification of Welders – Fusion Welding: Aluminium, BS EN ISO : Qualification of Welding Procedures – Arc Welding: Aluminium
• Extensive programme engineering/management experience in welded assembly to the vehicles in projects, including PPAP, PSW, PFMEA and Control Plans.
• An expert in Aluminium joining applications mainly in manual but may also for automated welding, with the background knowledge and experience to understand the methodology of Aluminium welding processes. Expected to have substantial experience in Aluminium welding.
• Experience in dimensional verification to the specification, strong skills across data analysis, tech know-how and ability to lead problem solving activities within an automotive assembly environment.
• Catia V5 (or alternative CAD system) viewer experience preferred, but not essential.
• Automotive experience at an appropriate OEM/ Tier 1 Supplier or/and Engineering Degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience of full product life-cycle activities and experience in process planning, schedule control, cost and project management.
• Understanding of the different assembly processes and equipment.
• Ability to work autonomously, managing your own workload and responsible for meeting your goals and challenges by creating plans and schedule own activities.
• Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients.
• Must be a team player who can work closely with GMAE Engineering and GMA production team.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines related to manufacturing.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications is essential.
