Open Ended Contract - Permanent: Full Time - 35 Hours per Week

The Opportunity:


This is an exciting opportunity to join the School of History of Art as Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Art History.


We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed colleague with experience or potential to produce exceptional teaching and research in the field of Modern and Contemporary Art History.

In particular we require a colleague who will help us extend our current curriculum through the design and delivery of a new online master's (MSc) degree programme.

You will join a growing team of internationally recognised art historians to develop and teach courses in your research area and contribute to team-teaching across all levels of our curriculum, from undergraduate to doctoral level.

You will have demonstrable capability and/or plans to deliver significant research outputs, build partnerships with local, national and international organisations, and attract external research funding.

You will be ambitious for your field and its potential to change existing or introduce new narratives.

Start date is 1 September, or as soon as possible thereafter.


Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD or equivalent qualification in the field of Modern and/or Contemporary Art History
  • Vision and ambition to extend Edinburgh Art History to new audiences by means of digital and online media
  • An enthusiastic, positive and creative approach to teaching and pedagogy
  • Evidence of, and/or potential to produce, a portfolio of exceptional and impactful research
  • Openness to the ideas and motivations of others and willingness to work as part of a team of academics and administrators
  • Commitment to the principles of academic governance and leadership by example.
