    Catch22 College Peterlee is looking for a qualified Tutor to deliver accredited Entry, Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in Functional Skills Maths and English. We are an accredited centre for City and Guilds and Edexcel. As a Functional Skills Tutor you will be working with 16-19 year olds (up to 24 with an EHCP) and delivering Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 Functional skills qualifications, with the overall aim of supporting our learners to develop their knowledge and skills and help them access appropriate training and employment opportunities.

    You will be supported by our Curriculum and Learning Lead who is responsible for leading the team to drive up quality, reaching and exceeding KPIs and promoting an ethos of continuous improvement.

    As a Functional skills Tutor, your main accountabilities will include:

  • Being responsible for planning and teaching Functional Maths, English and the rest of the curriculum
  • Preparing and developing innovative lesson plans, designing and delivering group activities
  • Delivering training to individual young people and groups following the programme curriculum, setting objectives and targets for achievement
  • Providing one to one support to learners
  • Working with team members to ensure learners achieve their targets and progress into appropriate outcomes
  • Providing encouragement, guidance and support to learners to help them progress
  • Managing any behaviour issues that arise
  • Preparing and submitting up to date assessments of learners
  • Monitoring and maintaining appropriate paperwork and records of progress
  • Establishing, developing and maintaining effective working relationships with other external organisations involved with the service and learner
  • Qualifications

    To be successful as a Functional Skills Tutor, you will need considerable experience working with disaffected young people. In addition, we are looking for:

  • A relevant teaching qualification equivalent to PGCE or Cert ED
  • Maths and English qualifications, at Level 2 or above (or equivalent)
  • The ability to embed functional Maths, English and ICT throughout the curriculum, from Entry Level to Level 2.
  • Experience of working with young people, their families and communities, including those who are from a variety of ethnic groups and cultures or who may be vulnerable or disadvantaged in some way.
  • Experience of screening and identifying young people's needs
  • Experience of a range of approaches to working with hard to reach and difficult to engage young people
  • Experience of working to budgets & targets
  • An in depth understanding of and commitment to safeguarding
  • Knowledge and understanding of progression routes for young people
  • Be willing to complete Maths and English assessments and sit level 2 Functional Skills Maths and English test
  • A current driving licence would be beneficial
