Mechanical Technician

Are you a skilled and experienced Mechanical Technician? Do you have a passion for "Big Engineering", aeroplanes and all things aerospace? Then this exciting role is the role for you


You will be working at a world leading aerospace and aerodynamics research establishment which works with such clients as Saab, Bombardier, Boeing, Turkish Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, Airbus, Comac and BAE Systems to mention but a few.

As an Mechanical Technician you will be working as part of a highly skilled and enthusiastic team servicing, maintaining and upgrading the onsite transonic wind tunnel amongst other specialist facilities.

Not only assisting in the day to day testing thatthe facility is used for but carrying out inspections, planned maintenance and determining maintenance programmes on various systems including controlling and monitoring the 11kV transonic wind tunnel motor.

There is also a chance to use your expertise toinfluence how the various facilities could be improved.

Your main duties and responsibilities as an Mechanical Technician will be:

To carry out planned maintenance:
inspections, maintenance and repairs of the equipment involved with tunnel testing and mechanical services.


You will be responsible for reactive maintenance: the repair of plant and equipment during breakdown scenarios including fault-finding in accordance with supervisory instructions.

Control and monitor the 11,000 volt Main Transonic Fan Motor and the Sulzer Axial Compressor and Motor.


You will be responsible for the installation of new plant and equipment in accordance with supervisory instructions and share ideas on design and implementation improvements, as appropriate.

Mechanical Apprenticeship and/or significant demonstrated experience

Team player, capable of coaching and mentoring less experienced employees as well as supervision of apprentices as required

Flexible and positive attitude, willing to go that extra mile to meet deadlines/schedules

Attention to detail in terms of quality of work

Drive and commitment to improve own skills and be receptive to new ideas and ways of working

Self-motivated with good communication and can-do attitude to overcome issues that arise
