    Scrutiny Officer

    £33,915 - £35,982 pro rata

    Kelvedon Park, Essex

    Permanent, Part Time

    22 hours per week

    The role

    This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the continuous improvement of policing and fire and rescue services in Essex.

    The PFCC is seeking a Scrutiny Officer to ensure the efficient and effective running of a range of governance boards and scrutiny functions through the provision of high quality, proactive support and administration. This is a broad and varied role which will be supporting a number of governance boards and project managing any scrutiny reviews commissioned by those boards.

    What we are looking for

    We are therefore seeking an individual who is well organised and adept at prioritising their workloads and managing competing demands appropriately whilst still maintaining high standards. The successful applicant will be educated to an A Level or equivalent vocational qualification or above and will demonstrate considerable experience of providing an effective administrative support function, preferably within a public sector environment. They will pride themselves on accuracy and attention to detail.

    The role requires excellent communication skills and confidence in dealing face to face, via telephone and in writing with a wide range of stakeholders. The successful applicant will possess the interpersonal skills and style necessary to develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues across the PFCC's office, Essex Police and the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service as well as with other elected officials, representatives of other external bodies and the general public.

    The successful applicant will be able to work competently and confidently both on their own initiative and as part of a team. We are a small, friendly team, so seek applicants who work cooperatively with others to get things done, who willingly give help and support to colleagues, and who equally ask for help and support when they need it.

    Applicants will be required to demonstrate sound working knowledge of data protection and information security legislation and principles and must be able to deal appropriately with confidential and sensitive material.

    Offices are based at Kelvedon Park, which provide onsite parking opportunities. The PFCC offers agile working, which designates that certain roles can offer flexibility in terms of place of working, including some home working. In the event that home working is agreed for the successful candidate, there will be a requirement to regularly attend the contractual workplace, as agreed with the line manager.
