Acorn is currently recruiting for an Engineering Manager
The multi faceted Engineering Manager will be required to provide leadership and mentorship to all members of the engineering team to deliver:

  • Maintain and improve the working environment in terms of S,H& E along with HR of their team
  • Ensure engineering teams work as one to meet business objectives and customer requirements in terms of fit, form and function, incorporating all safety features, to the required quality and at the budgeted cost.
  • Manage team to ensure an efficient and coherent approach to all engineering activities across value streams of the business and the following disciplines:
  • Mechanical, Electrical and Design Engineering
  • Development of New product design
  • Management and Control of Bills of Materials
  • Familiarisation of existing products, materials, design rules and production techniques with the aim of leading on the redevelopment and VAVE of existing products by enhancing these techniques, reducing materials costs, and improving production efficiencieswhere possible
  • Ensure consistency of design standards and incorporate techniques such as design for manufacture, design for assembly, costed BoMs ect.
  • Control all design files and information are maintained in accordance with legal, ISO9001, customer and company requirements.

Person Specific requirements:

  • Post graduate qualifications or professional accreditations beneficial (Chartered, MBA etc.)
  • Proven experience of managing multidisciplined engineering design/development teams
  • Experience of the design of heavy industrial equipment such as conveyors, furnaces, industrial ovens is beneficial but not essential
  • Proficient with a 3D CAD package Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks & Eplan.
  • Good knowledge of mechanisms, gearing, basic hydraulics with an ability to perform basic calculations is required
  • Good knowledge of designing for welding and fabrication
  • Good understanding of costed BoMs and what is required from the BoM to drive the business on Cost & Supply
  • A natural leader, motivator, and inspirer
  • First class interpersonal skills
  • Possess the skills and want for career development and progression within a growing company potentially leading to Director level.

This role is mainly in the UK but may require a small amount of travel currently 6-8 direct reports potential to increase with business demands.
